One Best Friend or Can You Have Multiple BFFs?

Friendship Note #1

🦁 Hey Friend! You’re Doin’ Great! 🦁

This week will be talking about Best Friends Forever (BFFs). First Issue: One or more than one BFF?

Having a best friend is not like a monogamous marriage…you get more than one!

What’s A BFF?

We defined what a friend is in four long posts (1, 2, 3, 4).

You naturally have friends who are closer to you than other friends. These are your Best Friends. Life happens and we fall into and out of close friendships. Jobs change and the Best Work Friend changes. Your kids quit playing soccer and take up basketball and your Best Sports Friend is new.

Best Friends Forever are the friends with who you share a mutual commitment to always be involved in each other’s lives. The friendship can be an old one or a new one, but the commitment is the same: I’m here with you until the end.

Why Have More Than One BFF

You don’t have a single friend who will meet every single need every time in your life. You also need more than one perspective to grow into a healthy man.

My Ghanaian BFFs helped me through a tough medical issue this past week because they are close by. But they don’t know me like my college buddies or two of the older friends I have who give me different wisdom and perspective.

Here’s my bulleted list of reasons to have more than one BFF.

  • Location

  • Personality

  • Gifts and Abilities

  • Different Shared History

  • Intuitively Understand Different Parts of Your Soul

  • Friends Can Pass Away, and they do the older we get

There are more. Think about your BFFs and what they bring to your life.

We’ll talk more about BFFs on Wednesday.
