Remembering Together Is Learning Together

Friends Help Us Remember, Learn & Grow From Our Past

“Remember, so that it may go well with you in the land…”

When was the last time you forgot who you were and did something bad, weird, unusual, or otherwise out of character?

Every guy has momentarily (or more) lost his brain in Jr. High, Sr. High, and in his 20’s. You and I both have been caught up in a moment and said something profane and inappropriate. We’ve gone too far sexually, driven too fast, and been too aggressive at some point in our lives. Remember when you “snapped” back into reality and realized what you just did? Yeah, me too.

But there is a better way to remember.

Remembering the blessings, good people, and great foundation holding up our life can keep us from doing something stupid—and doing the other kind of remembering. The book of Deuteronomy is sermons from Moses to a group of former slaves ready to become a wealthy nation. Moses commands all the men, women, and children to “Remember” who they are and want to become.

Your best friends will help you remember where you’ve come from and where you are going in life.

They don’t have to say anything, just being with a good friend helps us to know our own history and hopes. A good friend will share stories about your shared past. A great friend will remind you of your dreams and goals for the future.

How do you help your friends to remember who they want to become?

Great friends help us remember our plans to become our best selves.
